I had a completely different post all planned for today. But then, I changed my mind.
Because I felt the need to think warm thoughts. To dream about being on the beach with the hot sun streaming down on me. To pretend ... if only for just a few minutes ... that summer's almost here. And what better way to feed my delusion than with a bright and refreshing, ice-cold glass of a perfect-for-summer-sipping drink?
So because of my need to indulge in delusion on this amazingly bitter cold day, I'm sharing this Triple Citrus Sangria recipe. And pretending I'm drinking a big ol' glass at the warm and sunny beach.
Red wine and brandy combine with fresh lemon, lime, and orange to deliver up this refreshing and delicious Triple Citrus Sangria.
You see, just like the majority of the US at this moment, North Carolina is in the grip of a freezing cold Arctic blast. Our low temperature today was 4 degrees. Four degrees. With a forecast of dipping below zero during the night. That just doesn't happen here.
Now having grown up in Vermont, I've seen more than my fair share of single-digit and below-zero temperatures. But after being in the South for 20 years? My body has definitely forgotten how to deal with them.
So along with staying inside bundled up in fourteen layers of clothes and turning up the heat on my electric blanket, I'm turning to delusional thinking to stay warm.
And my delusions include three kinds of citrus ...
So if you're like me and gripped in the sub-freezing temperatures of this Arctic blast, join me in dreaming of drinking a big glass of Triple Citrus Sangria on the warm, sunny beach.
Oh, what a wonderful delusion it is.

Triple Citrus Sangria
Red wine and brandy combine with fresh lemon, lime, and orange to deliver up this refreshing and delicious Triple Citrus Sangria.
prep time: 40 Mcook time: total time: 40 M
ingredients:
- 3 c. dry red wine
- 1 1/2 c. lemon-lime soda {such as 7-Up or Sprite}
- 1 1/2 c. orange juice
- 1 lemon, sliced
- 2 limes, sliced
- 1 medium-sized orange, sliced
- 1/2 c. brandy
- 1/4 c. granulated sugar
- 2 T. orange liqueur {Grand Marnier or Triple Sec}
- 2 T. grenadine
- 2 T. fresh lemon juice
- 2 T. fresh lime juice
instructions:
How to make Triple Citrus Sangria
- Combine sugar, brandy, and orange liqueur in a pitcher; stir until sugar is fully dissolved. Stir in all remaining ingredients.
- Let stand for 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
- Serve in glasses filled with ice. Garnish with additional lemon and lime slices, if desired.
TRACEY'S NOTES
- If storing leftovers in the refrigerator, I recommend removing the citrus slices to a separate container as their flavors {especially the lemon} can become too strong in the sangria. When serving, add citrus slices back to each glass.
This looks delicious- I am such a lover of Sangria, and usually prefer Sangria made with red wine (though I have tasted an amazing Sangria with champagne and peach nectar as well). Thanks for posting!
