It's November, which means turkey time is here! I guess it's time to get planning that Thanksgiving menu ...
If you're looking for a little inspiration to get in the Thanksgiving mood, this tasty Turkey & Dressing Casserole is just the thing.
It packs all the great Thanksgiving flavors of turkey and dressing, without having to cook the whole bird.
It packs all the great turkey and dressing flavors of Thanksgiving into one hearty dinner dish.
It's a perfect dish for a family dinner to get in the Thanksgiving spirit, or for a pre-turkey-day "Friends-giving" where you want something a little different than the traditional menu. Or heck, put this tasty dish on the Thanksgiving day menu itself if you'd like!
But you certainly don't have to cook a whole bird or have turkey leftovers to make this.
For this particular dish pictured in the photos, I used a package of turkey tenderloins ~ which you can find in the poultry area of the grocery store meat case. Turkey tenderloins come in about 1-pound to 1 & 1/2-pound packages, and were the perfect amount of turkey for this recipe.

When I made this for dinner the other night, I wasn't sure what our 7-year-old daughter would think of it. She loves turkey ~ she's a total meat lover, and would subsist on meat alone if we'd let her.
But she's not a fan of dressing. So, I did have some concern about how dinner was going to go. {There's always peanut butter & jelly as a back-up plan!}
This is one of my favorite casseroles ... and knew it was just the thing I needed to get me in the spirit for gearing up for the holidays.

I'm happy to say, she liked it!
Once we could convince her to actually take a bite, she decided it was actually good. I'd say the layer of melty cheese on top sure helped with her perspective ... in the world of a 7-year-old, melty cheese makes everything better.

As for me, this is one of my favorite casseroles ... and knew it was just the thing I needed to get me in the spirit for gearing up for the holidays. They'll be here before we know it!

That looks yummy! I make a leftover casserole using up turkey, stuffing, squash, gravy and top it all with potatoes... it's so good. I just love casseroles and am always looking for new ways to use up all that leftover turkey.
ReplyDeleteI pinned your delicious casserole! Your post is awesome and thanks so much for sharing it with us at Full Plate Thursday. Hope you have a great week and come back to see us real soon!

This recipe looks sooo good. Pinned it twice :) So glad I saw it at the #HomeMattersParty today.
ReplyDeleteThese leftover recipes look delicious. I pinned several to try. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI have a recipe similar to this from my mother-in-law, and everyone loves it. Her recipe calls for a bit more celery, and includes a shredded carrot, & the addition of chopped Italian parsley. I LOVE Pepperidge Farms herbal stuffing mix, and use it often in other dishes. I use low sodium broth, but there's always a salt & pepper shaker on the table for folks who want to use it. Thanks for reminding me of this delicious dish. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Do you have to refrigerate it?
ReplyDeleteThe leftovers? Yes, you do.
DeleteI doubled the recipe so would I need to increase baking time?
ReplyDeleteMost likely not ... it should still bake just fine in the same amount of time. Unless it's in a small-ish pan and the casserole is then quite "deep" because of that ... then you would probably want to increase baking time by about 10 to 15 minutes or so. Enjoy!
DeleteLooks great! If I make this the night before do you recommend putting it in the freezer?
ReplyDeleteYou should refrigerate but you do not need to freeze to keep for one day.
DeleteHi, do I have to refrigerate this before cooking
ReplyDeleteRefrigerating allows the ingredients to meld and allows the stuffing will absorb some of the liquid,
DeleteI have the same question. If I bake it right away what adjustments would you make?
ReplyDeleteFamily loved it. I even added the little bit of gravy that was left over. This was a hit!
